SAT Subject Math Level 2 Test Preparation

While most schools require the SAT or ACT tests as a basis for admissions, some schools also require some SAT Subject Tests. One of the possible tests that your student can elect to take is the SAT Math level 2. This test covers more material than the Level 1 test in Math and is designed to assess your student’s abilities in higher-level math courses, such as skills in trigonometry and pre-calculus. An advantage of taking an SAT subject test is that it may allow your student to test out of certain courses in college. This can be a great way to save money when in college, as your student could move on to higher-level courses rather than taking the introductory ones in their first year. Scoring high enough on the SAT subject matter tests may also allow your student to move through their degree program at a faster rate, potentially even allowing them to graduate early.

Because the math level 2 test covers more material than the level 1 test, students should have a broader background in mathematics before taking the math level 2 SAT Subject Test. In addition to having completed coursework in algebra and geometry, suggested prerequisites for the math level 2 test include either taking precalculus coursework or trigonometry.

All of the questions on the SAT subject tests in math are multiple-choice questions, so your student does not need to worry about any rated answers. If your student doesn’t know how to answer a question, our tutors can work with them to learn how to narrow down the question’s answers to pick the best choice. There is no penalty for incorrect answers, so it’s definitely important for your student to choose an answer for each question.

Calculators are allowed on the SAT subject tests in math, and the test is a 60 minute exam. There are 50 question in total, but some questions may take more time to answer than others, so our tutors can work with your student on time management and problem solving techniques to help them use their time most efficiently. A tricky part about taking the exam is that some sections on the test may have different time limits than other sections, so time management techniques are extremely important when taking this test.
